The most intriguing thing when visiting Gruyères is that in the middle of this cute medieval town you come across alien statues. It’s the HR Giger Museum, dedicated to the work of the creator of Alien. Last time, I couldn’t visit the museum so I made for it. I may seem like I only love cute bunnies and flowers but I used to read and watch a lot of horror back when I was a teenager. The movie Alien has made a deep impression on me so wandering among real size reproductions of the monster really gave me the creeps. I also didn’t expect something so explicitly sexual. It was a strange experience of being scared and disturbed but also of finding aesthetics in the bizarre.
The museum bar across the street is definitely a must see, especially for goth bone lovers. It’s like visiting the belly of an alien whale skeleton.
